Hey everyone,
Welcome to the first episode of "The Self Love Podcast with Chika," formerly known as "The Flow Era." I'm thrilled to kick off this rebranded podcast with a topic that's incredibly close to my heart: self-love.
Affirmation: "I am worthy of love, and it starts with loving myself unconditionally."
Why the shift?
Over the past six months, I've been on a journey of self-discovery and personal growth. I've come to realize that self-love is the foundation of everything we do, whether it's in our relationships, careers, or personal lives. It's the key to unlocking our true potential and living a fulfilling life.
I wanted to create a space where we can explore this topic together, share our experiences, and support each other on this journey. Learning to love ourselves is not always easy; it's a process that takes time, effort, and a whole lot of patience.
Why is self-love important?
Self-love is the foundation of all our relationships, both with ourselves and others. When we love ourselves, we set healthy boundaries, make better choices, and attract positive people and experiences into our lives. It's the key to living a fulfilling and authentic life.
What I have seen over the past 6 months
In my coaching practice, I've worked with many women who are looking to enter partnerships. However, what's interesting is that self-love has been a recurring theme, not just in romantic relationships, but also in friendships and family dynamics. Many of my clients have struggled with toxic parents or friends who have undermined their self-worth. This has highlighted the importance of self-love in all areas of our lives.
My journey of self-love (mother)
My first introduction to self-love was through my mother. Unlike many Nigerian parents, she never pressured me to marry, and I ended up getting married at 34. She always reminded me to be someone who is kind and loving, but emphasized that to do this, I have to love myself first.
Toxic relationships
Before meeting my husband Eche, I was in a toxic relationship with a man who clearly didn't love women. One day, I realized that I couldn't love myself if I stayed in that situation. It was a difficult decision, but I knew I had to leave to prioritize my own well-being and self-love.
Learning to love myself more
For me, learning to love myself has involved healing my inner child, doing things that bring me joy, and creating healthy boundaries. It's an ongoing process, and I'm still figuring things out, but I'm committed to showing up for myself every day.
What's to come
In future episodes, we'll continue talking about feminine energy, but we're also expanding our focus to include self-care and purpose. I'm excited to dive deeper into these topics and share more of my own journey with you.
Remember, self-love is not a destination; it's a lifelong practice. It's about showing up for yourself every day, even when it's hard.
Before we wrap up, I want to leave you with the affirmation we started with: "I am worthy of love, and it starts with loving myself unconditionally." Repeat this to yourself every day, and watch how your life starts to change.
